Cross-Country Skiing
in Indiana County Parks & Trails
Cross-country
skiing is a great way to stay fit and enjoy the beauty
of winter. Our parks offer exceptional opportunities for
skiing. Beginners will enjoy many level, wide-open areas,
while experienced skiers will find many challenges on
our backwoods trails. All trails in our park system are
open to cross-country skiing. However, we do not groom
any of these trails.
Where
to ski
Blue Spruce
Park: Blue Spruce features over five miles
of trails. The Getty Run Trail is level, wide, and scenic,
offering the ideal setting to practice skiing skills.
Both sides of the lake are open and gently sloping, creating
additional opportunities for beginning skiers. For more
challenging skiing experiences, try the Vista Ridge, PCC,
and Aspen trails. A Blue
Spruce Park trail map is available here in PDF format.
Blacklick Valley Natural
Area (BVNA): The Parker Tract of the BVNA
features five miles of trails. The Wetlands, Blacklick,
Candlestick, and Parker Lane trails are located in the
level bottomlands adjacent to
Blacklick
Creek. The Collier Trail is recommended only for experienced
skiers. The Parker Tract is the ideal location to enjoy
a quiet, secluded skiing experience in an area that abounds
with wildlife. A BVNA
trail map is available here in PDF format.
Ghost
Town Trail (36 miles) and Hoodlebug
Trail (10 miles): These trails, constructed on
abandoned railroad corridors, are wide and level. Both
trails are suitable for beginning or experienced skiers.
Maps of our county trails can be found on our Park and Trail Maps page..
Pine Ridge
Park: Pine Ridge features four miles of
trails. The Tom's Run Trail is suitable for intermediate
skiers, while the Lodge Trail offers a challenging loop
for experienced skiers. The mature stands of hardwoods
and the beauty of Tom's Run create a scenic location for
skiing. A Pine
Ridge Park trail map is available here in PDF format.
Indiana County Parks does not offer
cross-country ski rentals.
